Our Child 3

Watercolor
8 x 10 inches
unframed and unmatted, $50

This is the third of immigrant children series. Is this a teen? What sexual identity? Is the emotion anger? But there are tears? Is this child watching and waiting for us to do something? I want us to have all these questions and feel both for the child and our own discomfort.

This is one of a series of four portraits painted from May to June of 2018 when our government took babies and children from their immigrant parents and housed them in cages. The numbers have since risen to 12,000. I am horrified by this inhumanity. I have worked with children and families my whole life and know the impact of such acts on children, parents, and future generations. They wait. When will the lesson be learned?
